Do you think that college life is all fun and parties? To a certain extent, it is so but it is not entirely true. There are some problems every student should cope with. In fact, these problems begin before you arrive at campus for the first time. The problems begin when you are still at home, packing your luggage for a college trip. There are so many things to take, all of them ate necessary, but the fact remains that your suitcases are not stretch. To make a choice of things to take along with you to college campus, you should make a list of necessary things in order not to forget anything. The things to bring to a dorm • You are going to study at college and you need a computer, as all professors demand typed papers today. A laptop will be the best choice. • Bring a good alarm-clock that will be able to wake you up even if you visited a night-long party. • Do not forget to bring toiletries and bedding. • You may also bring you family photos. • Something personal, like a favorite plant, will be useful. The things not to bring to a dorm • Do not bring your pets to the dorm even if your pet tarantula spider misses you very much. • Do not bring very expensive luxurious things, there are many residents in a dorm, if someone wants to borrow your expensive thing, there is no guarantee that you will see it again. • All the clothes you have are also not necessary to take at once. Remember that you will go home for holidays and you may take more clothes then. • Never bring alcohol nor drugs to a dorm, they are prohibited by law and ethical code. The code of the dorm: the first night • You should not waste your first night in the dorm as it can be very interesting. Do not be absorbed by unpacking, you will have time for that later. Unpack only those things that you need right now (toothbrush, snacks, slippers). • There are two further options to choose: the first is to stay in your room but with your door open. Be sure that less than ten minutes will pass before someone looks in to say hi. • Also, you can leave your room and go around the dorm looking for new friends. If you see an open door, you are free to look in. • If you do not feel well forcing your friendship upon other people, you can go to a common room. Almost all dorms have common rooms where residents can gather to talk and have fun. The code of the dorm: after the first night • Living in a dorm, you should observe some basic rules, called “the code of a dorm” to make your life comfortable and peaceful. • Try to make your roommate your best friend. • Do not provoke violence in the dorm. • Do not disturb other residents. • Take part in cultural events organized in the dorm. Often RA (resident assistant) organizes them.
